South Coast Fun to end the Year for Matt Forbes

Two-time Australian Super Gas Champion Matt Forbes will take part in this weekend’s $10,000 shootout at Portland’s South Coast Raceway, swapping his ’57 Lucas Oil Corvette Roadster for a ’55 Chevrolet Sedan.

Forbes said the bracket-racing event is a great way to end his championship-winning year, with a different style of racing and relaxed atmosphere.

“I’m really excited to take part in the event. It’s been a long time since I’ve raced a bracket style category or a right hand drive car, so I’m really looking forward to it,” Forbes said.

“Just because it’s a more relaxed event to the ANDRA ones, doesn’t mean the racing will be any less tough.

“I’m still going to be racing just as hard as I normally do and see what this stunning Chev is capable of.”

While the goal of the weekend is to have one last blast for 2014, Forbes admitted there will be a bit of research for the opening round of the 2015 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series round in January.

“Portland has undergone some major work since I last raced there,” Forbes said.

“While the car I’m racing this weekend and the Lucas Oil Super Gas Roasdster don’t have much in common, I’ll be checking out the new surface.

“I’m just looking forward to one last outing for the year and putting on a good show for the fans.”

Racing at the two day $10,000 to win show gets underway from 11am tomorrow morning.

Forbes’ 2015 Super Gas campaign commences 17-18 January, when the Sportsman Series returns to South Coast Raceway.
